At least Harrah's knows how to keep a talented magician!
Re: Del Ray
I had the great pleasure to see Del 4 times in the late 70's both in front and from the wings! He was just as amazing backstage as in the audience! He then, later, had everyone in a room and did close-up for well over an hour! BUT the BEST memory was his performance in Raleigh, NC, (1976 or 77). Aft...

Mark - About 30 years ago Sir Anthony Quayle (who you have to admit is a great Brit!) was in residence at The University of Tennessee (you know, us "stupid rednecks")in the drama department. He was quoted as saying that if you read Shakespeare with an East Tennessee mountain twang, it made...

Re: Book of the Month: Fechter: The Magic of Eddie Fechter
I was told about Eddie by Ron Conley, who taught me how to demo and sell magic 36 years ago (it's all his fault!). Ron used to hang out at the bar/rest, back in the day (along with Mike Skinner). I then got the chance to see Eddie work at the Close-up Convention in Greenville SC in 1977. He was in a...

Re: Criss is back at it ...
Oh, and before someone says that all the magicians in Vegas are just jealous of his "success".....We wanted him to succeed because it would be good for magic on the Strip. With the corp. mentality of the casinos now, one bad magic act means all of the new ones are going to be bad or too mu...

AND the hits just keep on coming. Here is the entire article from today's Las Vegas Review-Journal! (BTW I do not wish Criss ill. The more sucessful the show, the better for magic here in Vegas. If he fails, (if?) it will hurt the chances for any other shows on the strip (as illogical as it seems) M...

Re: Lids by Rick Johnsson
I had the pleasure of working with Rick a few times in the 70's. He was one of my favorite magicians and is still today. I was in college at Middle Tenn State Univ in 1976 when the special events office asked me if I could do a 2 1/2 hour show. I thought they were nuts! It turned out that they had b...

Re: Tom Mullica as Red Skelton
You are in for a treat! I was fortunate enough to see Tom during his time at the Plaza Hotel & Casino here in Vegas. What a wonderful experience! I knew Tom in Atlanta and I only saw Red on stage! A perfect illusion! As a life long fan of Red Skelton, this was like seeing him in concert once aga...

Re: DEL RAY'S PASSING
Back in the dark ages (Late 70's) I was lucky enough to see Del Ray about 5 times. I got to watch him from the wings of the stage (more amazing than watching from the front!) and from the front, saw him do his wonderful close-up for hours and hours and was a life long fan. But none of these events w...

Re: Okay, Blaine's out of the box: what do you think of the stunt?
I like what a British comedian said the other night on a David Frost special. He said that American magician David Blaine just finished 44 days in a box hanging over the Thames. That establishes him as the World's Worst Escapeologist (sp)! Laughed myself silly (but I'm easy). Just thought to share.
