Good question Pete. I just bought a deck of 310's and wasn't impressed. On the other hand I like the Bicycle Elite cards and some hate them.

Re: Premium Quality Playing Cards

It's funny the selection of quality cards we have now, and can pick and choose. I'm sure a lot of the classic effects were created with cards we wouldn't use today. Anyone know what the quality was like of those older decks?

Yes about the small hands. When I complained to him, I got an incredible lesson about a lot of different moves. Plus Howie had tons of stories about magicians and history. I tried to get some people to tape his stories or take video, but it never happened.

Lassen is the best, but not taking orders anymore. He'll put out random stuff for sale, recently Silver Eagle sets, but you have to be on his mail list and act quickly. There are others, but I haven't done business with them.

Years ago Paul Pierce (Capt. Boston Celtics) came to my workplace as he was the one chosen to sell tee shirts at the flagship store the next day for charity. He ducked to get in the door of my office and when he shook my hand, most of my arm was gone. BTW, he couldn't have cared less about the tour ...

Re: Last magic shop in New England closes

Unfortunately, trying to compete with Penguin/Murphy's is tough for any shop. Trying to provide huge stock and good prices is difficult for any brick and mortar shop. The way "new" and shiny things are released daily, a small shop can't keep up.

I won't pre-order any product or participate in a Kickstart program. Safer to spend a few more dollars for an actual product. On top of that if it is subpar you're not stuck with some expensive crap.
