Piracy and Magic
Recorded some thoughts after my first time having a product ripped off, touches both on some of the practical implications of rampant pirating in magic, but also about the kind of culture we want to create within magic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynV1Sqk6mR4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynV1S...

Is anyone aware of a source for the style of Himber wallet (with the snap on top) that Johnny used for the Nemo prediction.

Re: New Memdeck Ebook from Michael Close
I had a chance to read an early draft of Michael Close's new book and it is phenomenal. It is an excellent case of someone looking at his own work unemotionally, seeing a weakness in it, and ruthlessly ferreting it out. If you have some experience with a memdeck, Close's ideas will take your work to...

"Inside The Magic Castle" Trailer
This began with a conversation with a friend about how I would like to see magic presented on TV (which, with Netflix's massive presence in the primetime Emmy Awards is now more broadly defined than ever). The heart and soul of magic is the live, in-the-room experience; it is an experience that is p...

Holder for Kabuki Streamer Steal
Anyone aware of a published source for a holder design/clip to steal a Kabuki hand streamer from? Seems fairly straightforward to design but didn't want to re-invent wheel if there is a good solution out there.

John gave a fantastic lecture at the Florida Close-up and Parlor Convention hosted by Magicpalooza in May. Some lovely work. I definitely recommend booking him to anyone hosting a magic event/convention.

I think there's a fair amount of winking and self-aware irony in the video.
Congrats to Jarrett and Raja, the real work is just starting but I love seeing people living their dreams. Wishing them lots of success!

Three of us proofread that, but without having seen the DVD, there was no way we could have related a trick with the incorrect title to the correct creator. Besides, I think "Fickle Nickle" may predate Cornelius. Yes, the trick goes back decades prior to Cornelius (and we did get that par...

Just a quick note that my review of Finn Jon's "Legacy" DVD in the September issue that is out digitally today contain's a reference to "John Kennedy's 'Vanishing Nickel.'" The reference should have been to John Cornelius -- apologies to both gentlemen.

Re: Behind the Scenes of "Fool Us"
It was a huge pleasure to work with Michael and Johnny. The Workers books were a major part of my education as a magician and a lot of what I know about constructing a routine came from studying the questions Michael was asking of his material. If there weren't many notes on site, a big reason was t...

I watch and enjoy this series, but its REAL obvious that now the show is little more than a "showcase" for magicians - who no longer have the goal or need to fool P&T. Fooling P&T with Passe Passe Bottles?...Nope. Fooling P&T with "illusion steps"?...Nope. Getting na...

The issue with this kind of suspension -- and this is someone else's analysis (it may even have been Jonathan's -- my apologies that I don't remember the source) -- is the unresolved tension that comes from not removing the second support. When you remove the first support, it is like showing the gu...

I notice that the word "contract" appears nowhere in that whole story. If one is booked to fly halfway around the world to perform, wouldn't it be smart to get the details in writing? If the booker's intention is to make you look bad by changing things last minute, a contract is very litt...

Issues between other performers aside, this does reveal how different the world we are living in is. In the past, for something to get in front of as many people as this did, someone with a big bank account was guarding the door between the act and the audience and had to let the performer in...a va...
