I rather liked Bart Harding mainly on the grounds that he purchased and raved about my svengali routine. We did have some correspondence

I suppose it is slightly awkward until you get used to it. You need a bit of strength in your fingers when you do it. Don't use a stiff or a new deck.

How to fan a svengali deck.
It really is about time Richard learned how to fan a svengali deck. He has been emailing me for the details and I tried to explain but alas he still can't figure it out even after purchasing my most wondrous "The Long and the Short of It" book which can be obtained here: https://www.markle...

Re: Performing for Elders?
One of the most memorable moments I ever had doing a show at a senior's residence was when I finished my show and I was quite startled by an old lady standing up to give a little speech. She said, "Mr Lewis, I want to thank you for coming here to show us your magic. If you look around at the st...

Re: Performing for Elders?
I have done many shows for seniors. However, it seems that you may be talking about close up magic and that is a different thing altogether. I imagine the best thing to do close up for that age group is something visual so they don't have to think too much. For stand up shows I think the ideal is to...

I have made a three trick sequence out of this finishing with the Daley trick. My audiences seem to like it. I have found the effect is stronger when you make a little routine out of it.

What part did either of you miss when I said he was doing a feint? So, okay, fine. That's what David was doing versus actually doing the French Drop. I said he wasn't doing a French Drop, except as a feint. Shall I say it again??? Here he is doing it, or not doing it, nearly at the end. https://www...

Oddly enough as good as David Roth undoubtedly was I noticed on a couple of videos that his French Drop had a lot to be desired. Still nobody is perfect I suppose I've never seen David do the French Drop as anything other than a feint; he would actually take the coin in the right hand Classic Palm,...

Re: Blackpool 2024 Day One
On the Friday early Gala Show they dragged the human beast, Craig Petty, from the audience and placed his head in a huge guillotine. I was hoping that chopping off his head would put an end to his ceaseless rants. Unfortunately, the guillotine failed to drop. Craig survived. And all was confusion. ...

I have had wonderful results with the One Coin Routine of Slydini. I cut some of it out in order to incorporate the glass through table. I have created sensations with this combination. At psychic fairs I adapt things to Buddha through the table instead.

Re: Slydini's material
I have a theory that I have seen proven time and time again counter intuitive as it may seem. I believe certain magicians can get better reactions doing their tricks wrong than others can doing their tricks right. I believe this is for two reasons one of which is that they underestimate the magician...

Re: ERDNASE
The way I see it is that he put a lot of work and time on this not to mention money. He must have spent hours and hours on this. In fact I bet he didn't make a dime from it and may even have lost money. He let us watch it for free. And it wasn't as bad as has been made out. In fact some of it was qu...

This Erdnase film will never see the light of day anywhere other than on YouTube. There are so many violations in it that it would be easy to take down, even from YouTube. Re: Bad Magic
I remember when Doug Henning became known on a national level in the 1970s, I heard some magicians(?) complaining/asking, "why is he wear tie-dyed, bell-bottom clothes from the 1960s?" I said considering that magic had been stuck in the 1920s for the last 50 years, Doug Henning was an imp...
Re: Bad Magic
I agree with you. There have always been crappy magicians but they seem worse now than they used to be. Of course I am an old fuddy-duddy. I think the best magicians are all dead and in fact I don't feel that well myself.

Houdini once remarked that to be a good magician you should know how to do a cups and balls routine despite the fact that I never heard of him doing one However, just in case he is correct I thought I had better learn and devise one before I drop dead. This is what I came up with. Even though I can'...

Re: Brooklyn Magic Shop
Right now brick and mortar magic shops are dying off like flies. You need every bit of detail and acumen to make them work. For any shop I would have thought a good window display is paramount. Grafters (pitchmen) have a saying "Flash is Cash". The world "flash" means display.

I have now watched it a few times and am convinced that it IS the Derek Dingle version! The only difference is that instead of lapping the extra cards he dumps them onto the second pile on his right. I think the Dingle/Lorayne lapping finish is better since it eliminates that very fishy count at the...

That reminds me of the Derek Dingle version described by Harry Lorayne in his Reputation Makers book. I have actually included it in my Annotated Royal Road to Card Magic.
