Great stuff Bill. Thanks. While I don't know about their BES numbers. It is perhaps worth pointing out that Ron Graham, Martin Gardner and Persi Diaconis all have Erdos numbers of 1.
I have never published a paper with any of them.

I believe Derren Brown and the TV show Braingames both did versions of leaving a wallet in the street with a bright red circle painted around it and people apparently not only didn't pick it up but avoided looking at it.
