Re: Why are a lot of magicians boring when performing?

1. Time is a construct, so the Hitler argument/point is moot. 2. Most magicians are boring because they are executing a recipe instead of performing a role. They are boring because they are worried about what comes next instead of what is happening now. It is the same reason people who listen are wa...

Re: Great magic shops - Past and present

There used to be a magic store is Montrose Ca. I spent many a day in there buying what my meager allowance could afford. After buying my fifth or sixth trick deck or packet trick, the owner, who we called "the face" because his actual face looked like a rubber mask, said "look kid, yo...

Re: Death by Magic - DMC

Saw the first episode. I wanted to be entertained, but I wasn't. It seems like all magic on TV is now the same. Magician walks around doing set up street-esque magic with the final big effect. DMC is competent, but there is nothing original here.

Re: Why don't you attend local magic clubs?

The local IBM ring in Atlanta made me feel like joining was going to be a giant pain in the a$$. They didn't know me from Adam, but when I inquired about joining, I got a bunch of rigamarole about coming, watching, and if I wanted to, auditioning for membership. I've done magic for a living in my 20...

Re: Review: Reel Magic Magazine (Kozmo Magic)

My issue with a review this long is that I will dismiss it outright without reading it simply due to its length. It may contain worthwhile information, but I won't benefit simply because I'm not going to invest the time. How about some highlights and post the War and Peace best somewhere else with a...

Re: About doing magic

I just read this thread and it made me think back. Back in the 80s I performed at the Magic Island in Balboa CA. I believe I performed well, but most of my stuff was not original to me. When I started, I closed my act with David Williamson's Hypnotized out of his Williamson's Wonders book. I perform...

Re: Fool Us 8/13/18

I agree. Penn has said many times during the show that the basis for the show is that P & T are fans of great magic and the reason for the show is to showcase great magicians, not to show how much they know. In season 5, first episode, the first magician was a comedy any that did the invisible d...

Re: RE: Re: The Jerx on Natural Double Lifts

This thread reminds me of something which Harry Lorayne wrote a long time ago to the effect that magicians worry too much about things laymen don't give a darn about. Oddiy enough I think he wrote in connection with a double lift description! I think a lot of this depends on why whether or not you ...
