Then I suppose I am. I'm holding it like I'm playing Operation - dipping the tweezer straight down, then pulling up quickly. I find it much easier and very effective. When it's at an angle, say 45 degrees, that's when it becomes difficult to operate IMHO.

Re: The Tenyo Tricks for 2021

The gimmick is not easy to manipulate. I suppose as far as Tenyo goes, that is correct. However, I find the gimmick to be quite easy to manipulate with just a little practice in front of a mirror. I've been using a US gold dollar coin, which is a nice size and contrast to the silver tweezers. And I...

Re: The Tenyo Tricks for 2021

I can't stop messing around with the Magical Honeycomb. It looks very cool over Zoom. No worries about angles or grabbing items. I've loved this optical illusion for years, and of course, Tenyo made just the right adjustments to make it a great magic trick.

Praise for Geller, but no words at all paying respect for James Randi in a thread titled "RIP Amazing Randi." Even considering past grievances, that's pretty cold.

RIP Amazing Randi

I am so saddened by the loss of the Amazing Randi. At the first magic convention I ever attended in NYC as a pre-teen, Randi escaped from a straight jacket only feet away from me. I bought a poster of him and later while eating lunch with my father at a nearby restaurant, Randi was sitting at the ne...

Mr. Rubinstein, I'm genuinely happy you didn't feel embarrassed when having to admit you didn't fool Penn and Teller on a TV show called Fool Us. I've heard other magicians on the show describe the similar positive experience that you had. But that doesn't change the fact that I felt embarrassed for...

Magic at wakes?

As part of a compilation of "Weird Dad" episodes from author and actor John Hodgman's podcast, a dad explained his sincere request to his children to have a mime unironically perform at his wake. I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of a magician being asked to perform at a wake (not inc...

A Mere Puzzle

When reading essays and reviews about magic, I often come upon statements comparing a poor magic trick to a “mere puzzle.” The negative identifier, “mere” always seems to proceed the assumed lesser activity of “puzzle.” Magicians seem to acknowledge that puzzles are a sort of cousin to magic, but a ...

Once there is a vaccine, nothing will change. I'm not so sure about that. General virus etiquette will (or at least should) play a role in performances, especially in close-up and street magic. Any sort of in-the-hands magic should be preceded with a courteous request for permission (not always the...
