Re: Darwin Ortiz R.I.P

I can't believe I misspelled CardShark. I came in and got out and didn't proofread.

Re: Darwin Ortiz R.I.P

Cardsharp changed my life. I was fortunate to be able to express that to him.

Re: RIP Max Maven

Never met him, but his labyrinthine knowledge and historical depth will not be replaced. What a loss.

I just subscribed. The Hollingworth episode is stated to be “temporarily unavailable.”

I’ll check back! Thank you!

ERDNASE

Not sure if anyone in this forum listens to the Dan Cummins “Timesuck” podcast. But I submitted this overall subject as a suggestion for one of his involved expeditions. He put it up for a vote in the forum. It’d be interesting to hear it aired in such a way.

Re: ERDNASE

Martin Gardner apparently thought so, too, and explored the possibility that Twain might have helped edit or ghost the book for Milton Franklin Andrews, since both were residents of Hartford, Connecticut and billiard players. This thread should just be made into a book by itself. That’s cool, Richa...

Richard Kaufman wrote:Jonathan didn't mean that you're "fourth rate." He's oblique more often than not.

Yeah . . . I thought about that after the fact, although I wasn't offended. Johnathan has always been really straightforward.

I would appreciate an elaboration on the "power of doubt" thought :)

Re: Alaskan Poker by Ricky Jay

Why go fourth rate to honor secondary sources? The Hofzinser routines are around. The power of doubt? Because I happen to have a scripted place in my act where I acknowledge the book's value to magicians and card-cheaters alike, and perform the routine as "the author may have envisioned it per...

Re: Alaskan Poker by Ricky Jay

Being the wordy type, I actually wrote what I call my "Erdnase Paraphrase" performing the McDonald's "queens" to an equally-atrocious presentation. I perform it as a tribute to Erdnase. And while I would have liked to have performed, as Richard suggested, a different assembly, th...

Re: Death Camp Magicians

Interesting . . .

Having read Auschwitz, a New History (Laurence Rees), The Hiding Place (Corrie Ten Boom), and Night (Eli Weisel)--all this year, I think this would be a great way to round out the subject for me this season.

Thanks.

One thing I can say:

The unrushed way he did the top change is a lesson in and of itself.

Beyond that, it's cool to see someone simply making a cool moment for someone else.

Re: ERDNASE

Upon finding myself flailing about in the agitation cycle of life, and being nearly completely absent from Magic Forums completely for a few years (with a few aberrant exceptions. I'd hate for the doggedly-incredible research aggregators in here to find some wayward post that proves I wasn't complet...
