Three internationally established magicians have joined with the City of Gaithersburg to create Wednesday Night Wizardry, a magic performance series at the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg Maryland. Shows begin on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30 PM and continue most Wednesday nights through November.

The Washington area has an extraordinary concentration of top flight, professional magicians, said Germantown resident Mark Phillips, who has been performing magic professionally for nearly two decades.
Phillips and two other magicians, Alain Nu of Kensington and Bob Sheets of the District, created Wednesday Night Wizardry because they wanted the chance to perform locally. All three travel regularly to entertain audiences on cruises, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and in cities in North America, Europe and Asia. Many of our close friends, neighbors and even family members have never seen us perform in a real theater. said Sheets.

When the trio discovered The Arts Barn, they knew right away it was the perfect venue. Like 19th century magic salons of Vienna and Paris, the 99-seat theater provides an intimate setting. Being so close to the stage makes the magic even more astonishing to the audience, says Nu.

The family-friendly performances are geared for audiences aged 10 and older. Wednesday Night Wizardry is designed for audiences who will appreciate sophisticated magical entertainment, says Nu. In addition to classics such as levitating an audience member, the highly skilled trio will demonstrate the astonishing sleight-of-hand that has earned them the recognition of their peers. WNW will also often feature guest performers, so there will always be something new each show. We have a great roster of performers; some funny, some serious; so the show will have wonderful variety, says Phillips. During intermission, the audience will also get to see close-up magic performed in the theaters lobby.

The series debuts on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 PM. Performances continue on following Wednesday evenings at 7:30: September 10, 17, and 24; October 8, 15, 22, and 29; and November 5th, 12th and 19. The Gaithersburg Arts Barn is located at 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg.

Tickets are $12 for Gaithersburg residents and $15 for general admission. They may be purchased by calling the Arts Barn at 301-258-6394. Group discounts are available. For more information and directions, visit the City of Gaithersburgs website at http://www.ci.gaithersburg.md.us/.
