December Issue Letters

Discuss general aspects of Genii.

I was looking at the December issue of your fine magazine (I still miss Erika's photo though) and noticed there was no 'Letters' area. Thank you! The letters had started to get a bit too weepy for me and I wasn't looking forward to more of the same. Keep up the good work!

I like the so-called "weepy" letters! You'll see two pages of 'em in the January issue, which went in the mail yesterday. Mac King is on the cover.

Come on Richard, please don't put in any weepy letters. Next thing you know you'll have Melinda, First Lady of Magic writing an advice column for the lovelorn.

"Weepy"? Hmmmmmm...

I'm not sure what that means exactly; however, it suggests the kind of missives SPY magazine called "log-rolling" (an equally arcane term)--letters or commentary that have as much explanatory force or real content as e-mails on porn sites.

I may be wrong, but magicians don't seem to be "big" on writing letters...except to praise, gush, damn, or "weep"...Most of them are brief "outbursts." I wish they would occasionally write letters like the ones that regularly appear in THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS and THE NEW YORKER, where topics are truly debated and examined.

Years ago I wrote lots of contentious letters to the old GENII. None were published, acknowledged, or answered.

So it went..
So it goes...

Onward...

Genii not publish the Rock's letters? Tsk Tsk.
Any letters received now would be viewed with a more kindly ear.

A Layperson's View of Magic:

Last summer, my wife and I were flipping around the TV, and one of the specials with Melinda as a guest came on. She said, "Hey Bill, there's your Boobzilla woman!"

Those who aspire to have magic generally perceived as an _art_ have some work to do . . .

I do like rants....hmmmm, I guess I can tolerate the weepers. I would like to see a photo of Melinda (soft focus please, she isn't getting any younger).

We've had more pics of Melinda in our August 1999 issue than any other magazine had in years, so you've had your share of her!

We don't get a lot of letters from people who think Genii sucks--they just read "MAGIC" instead! :)
