Hi all

Is there a safe method / chemical available to perform the Hypno Heat effect ( tin foil heating up in spectators hand ? )

I believe it was called hypno-heat and it uses a mercury compound ... toxic and dangerous to handle.

Now that you have been warned: Here is a link to some pertinant data. From the cited source:
The Bichloride of Mercury used to be available as an antiseptic.

The chloride ion will break down the oxide layer on the aluminum, allowing the aluminum to oxidize assuming there's some water present to ionize the mercurous chloride.

I've been doing some research on Tony Corinda and I believe he may have "invented" the trick.

if you respect your spectators you will not do this painful effect.

If you google "hypno-heat" you will find a safe method to perform this effect. I haven't tried it myself, so can't vouch for it...

Merlins of Wakefield in the UK have stock of the dry 'slightly safer' version of hypno heat.

There was a safe version on the Magic & Illusion site at about.com a while ago. I don't know if it's still there. I may have it printed in my archives somewhere.

The safe version does not work very well.
