Anyone Have an Extra Key for a Goldston Lock Book?

Your doorway to those rare collectibles that everyone is searching for: books, props, posters, cards, and paper ephemera are all here for you to buy and sell.

Seems I have a "locked" Goldston lock book and no key.

If you have an extra or one you don't need - please let me know.

Or, I guess even a knock-off key would work, if I can't find an original key.

Please email only and don't post on here.

Thanks and a Happy New Year to all....

Guess it would have helped, if I put my email address in the last post:

No replies from anybody on this.

Anybody have any ideas for opening this book - short of just going to a locksmith store?

Did the Collector's Workshop Goldston reprints include a lock with key?

Maybe they'd have one, but I don't have their email address.

So, let me know what you think.

Thanks,

A paper clip might be able to open that book.

Which one of the books you have? They have slightly different locks... I think the third one had a bar with a normal padlock. On my blog, I show a photo of the three books: http://smallmagicollector.wordpress.com ... -goldston/

To open the first two, it should be sufficient to press the cover down and to insert a small nail or a paperclip in the hole, over the small cylinder, and apply pressure "to the right place" (sorry, can't be more specific... it's easier done than said).

The keys are nothing special, they just flick a small catch.

Good luck!

Thanks for the thoughts.

The edition I have is: Exclusive Magical Secrets.

I figured it was nothing more than a spring mechanism, but hadn't given it a try - till now.

A large paperclip, tip shaped into an L was all I needed to work around the lock's inside and open it.

I'd still like to find a key or knock-off, for when I get around to selling this - when/if the book locks again - the new owner might not be able to reopen.

The name, Will Sharpe, is embossed on the front cover, the same color as the gold embossed title.

Anyone have any information on Will Sharpe?

Thanks again, for all the help here - nothing like researching books!!

The book is the first one of the series. Not sure if you can find an original key... these tend to get lost... probably the best option is to find an original key and have it duplicated.

Will Sharpe was an amateur magician born in Bradford, England, in 1860. When about 10, he became interested in magic and later emigrated to Montreal, Canada, where he became active in the local magic scene. He was the proponent of the first magical association in the city in 1923. He was an amateur at heart and acquired some fame for inventing new tricks. He died after a long illness in 1935.
