My friend has a show poster for The Mighty Mysto Show starring, (you guessed it), Mysto the Mentalist. "Three big shows in one!"

Has anyone else heard of Mysto before and where he was active? The poster looks quite old- maybe the '20s or '30s. Thanks!

Wasn't he the illegitimate grandfather of John Carney?

There was a Carl Mysto who was active in British Music Hall circa 1915. He was friends with and apparently performed some of Walter Jeans' illusions. David Price's Magic incorrectly lists him as Jeans' son-in-law (Peter Warlock disputes this in his book Walter Jeans - Illusioneer and notes that he mentored Mysto for a period of time; there is also a photo of Mysto in that book). He did magic and escapes, so it's certainly possible he also did some mentalism. At least it's a place to start.

Bart Whaley says 'Carl Mysto Britain 1900's-1910s, Pro escapist-illusionist. In 1904 he challenged Houdini to duplicate Mysto's coffin escape which Houdini not onky did but also EXPOSED .
Then Arhtur Buckley(Card Control, Gems Of Mental Magic Principles & Deceptions etc) born in Sydney Australia 15 Dec 1890/1920 first performed as 'The Young Dante (after Oscar Elliason not Harry Jensen) then as MYSTO in Australia & New Zealand.
Also Robert G Mashford, born Sydney Australia, 4 Sept 1912. Aka MYSTO. Pro stage act with one assistant and small illusion.
