If you are not familiar with Helder's work, prepare to have your mind blown away. His explosive combination of technique & irreverent sense of humor have earned him countless awards across the globe. Helder is considered to be one of the leading experts in sleight of hand and delivers a performance that defies belief; you will soon see why! Not only are his handlings impeccable, but his routining, structuring and audience management is exceptional. His style has been influenced and is reminiscent of some of the greatest close-up artists in the last century: Dai Vernon, Arturo Ascanio, Juan Tamariz, etc.
In 2006, this young card magician took the FISM competition by storm and became the World Champion in Card Magic. His style is engaging, his moves are clean, and his magic is powerful. Hailing from Portugal with a degree in the dramatic arts he is a student of magic understanding the true art of conjuring. A brilliant thinker and incredible performer Helder Guimares is not to be missed!
He will not be teaching any of the tricks in his hit DVD set Red Mirror.
He will however teach some of the tricks in his new book: Ontology Project. He will also share some of his working material, as well as some of his performance philosophies. This is all new material either from his lecture set or from his new book.
If you are not yet, you still have a few weeks to get acquainted with his work before his lecture. Be sure to pick up a copy of his DVDs (Small Miracles and Red Mirror) as well as his new book Ontology Project, which comes with a special deck.
Helder Guimares: Lateral-Thinking Artist
Born in 1982, in Porto, Portugal, Helder Guimares soon became interested in unusual knowledge. At age 4 he became fascinated by magic and prestidigitation, giving his first public performance in kindergarten! Later his interest broadened into areas such as lateral-thinking and optical illusions. At 12 he was entering different national and international competitions, and has now been awarded 15 different prizes in some of the worlds most prestigious events. In 2004 he became the first Portuguese person to win the Ascanio Prize.
His work distinguishes itself through the right fusion between prestidigitation, psychology and humor. His International reputation was confirmed when, in 2006, he won the highest award that can be given in magic, being crowned Magic World Champion. Again, he is the only Portuguese person to have received this distinction to date.
Since then, his shows have traveled the world. He has performed in more than 15 different countries including Japan, the United States, England, Argentina, Finland, South Korea, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands. His professional activity is divided between this artistic, performance based component and an educational one. Helder also travels around the world as an instructor/consultant offering training based on his experience in the manipulation of perceptions to help companies in areas such as communication and marketing. He also performs for private parties and company events, including some of the Forbes 500 companies.
