Nicola (The Handcuff King?)

How about a break from Houdini. Here's one on Nicola, who for a time early in his career was a pretty respectable "King of Handcuffs" himself. Enjoy.

Two years ago, at The Magic Collectors Weekend in Chicago, Tad Ware gave a wonderful presentation about Nicola, with film, photos, and posters of him.

Looking at many posters that focused on his escapes and the many outdoor escape stunts he did for publicity, it was obvious that Nicola was riding hard the wave of popularity of escapes, that Houdini had fired up. It was fascinating to see Nicola hyped as an escape artist, sometimes as much as him being an illusionist.

Oh, wow, I really would have loved to have been at that lecture. I really realized just extensive Nicola's escapes career was. I knew he did handcuffs, but I only recently learned he also did the suspended straitjacket, Milk Can, overboard box...the big stuff.
