Tip-over Trunk - Source material?

Postby Josh Mandel » January 6th, 2011, 7:21 pm

I'm attempting to build a good, convincing tip-over trunk in a small size, out of a cardboard Priority Mail-type box. While I've made some interesting discoveries along the way, I'd like to pause at this point and study the literature. If I wanted to research the history and mechanics of tip-over trunks, any advice about where to look?

Many thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh!

Basic plans are in the Mark Wilson course. I've thought about the same project; I suggest you do the double-box version to eliminate angles on the sides. Outer box would be the Priority Mail box; inner box could be a wrapped package which turns out to be empty.

Some pictures on this page give you the idea and basic proportions:

Hey, old friend! How're you doing?

Thanks for the recommendation re: Mark Wilson's course. I'll check it out immediately.

I hadn't considered a double-box version...it makes a lot of sense.

You may want to have a look at Jim Steinmeyer's "The Magic of Alan Wakeling". Alan had some very nice touches on the tip-over.

Thank you, Travis. I'll see if I can dig up a copy of that!
