"Modern Enchantments"

Discuss general aspects of Genii.

Visiting a big Barnes & Noble, I noticed a book titled "Modern Enchantments: The Cultural Power of Secular Magic" by Simon During, published by Harvard University Press.

Does anyone have any info on this? I haven't checked Amazon.com yet.

Matthew,

Nice find.

If you have any interest in the humanities, the questions addressed by this book are intriguing. His conclusions are certainly getting their fair share of criticism though:

About Simon During

It would be interesting to know what others on this board feel about his proposal, and the implications which would naturally follow.

Is performance magic as important as we would like to think? Is it a forge for culture, or simply a reflection of it?
