A lot of magicians created their own story.

The point of departure is The Soldier Almanak (1790).

The first variantes are:

The Adventures of Diamond Jack by Namreh (1926).
Love Conquers All by Jack Vosburgh (1940)
Moe and Sam by anonymus (1952) which becomes Sam the Bellhop by Frank Everhart in 1961
