Airborne question

Postby Damian Odess-Gillett » July 5th, 2009, 12:03 pm

Hi,

I'm investigating performing "Airborne," for a video piece that will contain some quick, visual magic. I've never used this prop, but the line in the script references a "genie in a bottle," and I thought the image of the floating glass might play well.

Can anyone advise as to whether the effect plays well on-camera, or if there's any obvious pitfalls I should know about? I'm looking specifically at purchasing "Airborne with the greatest of ease," with the intention of using a glass water bottle, such as a Perrier bottle.

Many thanks,
Damian

Wasn't it done by a character in the movie "Boogie Nights"?

A putz of a magician was being booed. Lance Burton used Airborne for a long time (and still may) and I never heard him receive a single "boo" over it.

Not questioning Lance, but the trick may be overexposed - even the stage host guessed that the glass would float. Damian's genii bottle theme may be terrific - just hoping the YouTube comment crowd play nice.

Thanks for all your feedback. In the end, Airborne didn't make the final cut, but I enjoyed playing around with it, all the same.
