Elections cost a boatload of money and--if it's a small community with a limited revenue base (that would be "tax payers" for those who think this stuff is "free")--the results could be the same, thus an enormous waste. As longs as the law allows for it, there's nothing wrong with it. While out of the ordinary, coin flips, rolls of dice, and cuts of the cards to determine an election result are not out of the question.

And yes Pete, it will make a great story line for a card routine!

There will definitely be a Scripting Magic 2, although I wouldn't sit under water without a large straw waiting for it.

Meanwhile, since I've hijacked this thread for my own purposes, I can say that we are reprinting Scripting Magic as I write this and it should be back in stock (at Murphy's) within a couple of weeks. Also the Spanish translation is underway, although I think we're looking at 6 months or more until that's on the market.
