The Fringe 12/02/08

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

Yeah, I saw that too. Torn card in bottle and calling cards as if memorizing the deck. Both sort of weak for a TV show considering they could preset and script everything. I'd like to see them continue this with things that are a bit more "magic like."

I've been watching the show since it started and every time I see Walter, I think "Jerry Andrus"....

It's a fun show!

I am puzzled as to why Peter Bishop fanned the cards so as to show blank faces. Maybe something to do with the actor's handedness?

But it sort of messed the scene up. Since Olivia was shown blank faces, it would have been hard for her to memorise the deck order a moment later for her own trick.

The coin magic later in the episode was also nice to see.

JJ Abrams is known for magic in his shows, so I imagine we'll see more if this series lasts.

Was the a hand-in (like a stand-in, but for hands) for Joshua Jackson? Specifically in the coin sequence, I got the feeling that it was actually someone else. Anyone know?

The blank fan was likely the result of a lefty.

FOX has renewed Fringe for the full season, so perhaps there will be more tricks to see.

Anyone see EP.9 of The Mentalist. Opens with him doing the psychological force of 2 shapes.

yes - how about the character work done by the actor playing the villain in the episode - especially the end of the interview scene with the transition in a few shots.

I don't know how you can make your eyes go from nothing there to someone there.

I was told they would be calling on me again in the future ... I guess that means more magic to come in future episodes.

Cool, Doug, thanks for the update! Let us know when you'll be on again. I'm watching the show regularly, but for those who don't, they might want to tune in to catch your next appearance.
