New Forte GPS Trailer

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

Gents,

Were finally in the home-stretch for the re-release of Steves Gambling Protection Series. Were not taking orders yet, but were very close.

Grant Carden, our tireless editor, has just finished cutting together a trailer that is available here:

http://www.cardenfilms.com/gpstrailer.mov

The trailer gives you a great look at how the VHS to DVD transfer from the original 1 masters turned out, shows you some scenes from the 1-hour, never-before-seen Gamblings Invisible Thieves televison show (included in its entirety on the DVDs), and also teases you a bit with clips of a private museum tour and dozens of card moves performed by Steve himself. With but a few exceptions, none of these moves have never appeared on video before.

The running time of the original series was approximately 4 hours long. The total running time of the bonus features included in the set is almost 2 hours long.

Thats all for now.

Enjoy.

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the original of this or his other work is this a teaching dvd or just demonstration of gambling techniques? And what about his other work casino games protection, is that teaching and/or explanation?

David,

This series was originally shot as expose tapes for people that wanted to be informed regarding the cheating techniques that could be used in private games. While there is a tiny bit of crossover to certain casino games, it is not a focus of the Gambling Protection Series.

As expose tapes, they were not formatted for teaching per se. There are no, "put this finger there, that finger there and push with your left thumb" type of comments. However, they were shot from exposed views and with good angles that support learning the basic ideas and moves. You see Steve perform the move in "real time" and then you are given a behind the scenes look at how the setup and execution went down.

So, while I wouldn't characterize them as teaching tapes, a dedicated student can absolutely learn from these tapes as many will attest.

I received a phone call from Bill Malone just moments ago and he and I were laughing about how we both literally wore out our set of tapes from repeated viewings in the late 80s and early 90s. Bill will be the first to tell you he learned more about gambling sleight of hand from these original tapes than any other source, period. Many other cardmen have similar stories.

As for Steve's books, they are also formatted to be informative, but not instructional. They describe the moves and techniques, but not to the degree that someone could learn them. Both are out of print but still available from retailers.

Hope this helps and thanks for your interest.

Thank you Jason for responding, and although it's not for teaching I think I will still be purchasing it some time in the future.....
