I heard that he might do some magic while in space but I'm not sure when it would be.

When I find out I will post it here.

Let's hope he does more than just let a thing or two float around...

i talked to his Dad on ham radio back in the 80's, nowdays talking to the space station on ham radio is much easier than it was.

I dont think him doing any levitation effects would impress anyone lol

30 million dollars! How did... where did... he get all that money? My jaw is hurt! Next time I read this device as I am writing, I better be standing on carpet!
Wow! Wish him luck!

Ironic because when I'm performing, people always ask me if I do this "full-time". My responce is usually "No, in my real life I'm a rocket scientist!"...Well, in his case...

He made most of his money designing computer games. Then sold his company for a lot of money. Then went back to designing games and made lots of money. There was an article on him a couple of months ago in MUM.

Criss Angel needs a BANG to his show.
CA pays Richard to dress like him (CA) in space........CA disappears through his visible stage trapdoor, but no worry, ( cut to the NASA feed here) he has transported himself into space and is holding the spectator's signed card !
Can that be beat?

Usually The New York Post has a follow-up story or sighting about David Blaine. Has he landed yet? Maybe we will have two magicians in outer space at once!

Certainly wishing Garriot and all of the Expedition 18 crew the best on their journey to the International Space Station.

A web site's been set up for those who want more information.

As an aside, this would not be the first time that a magic trick has been performed in space.

And Penn and Teller did a trick with an astronaut once. They had it on BS a while back.

His dad was the first ham radio operator to make contacts from space. That's the reason there is ham radio on the IIS and shuttle. In fact one time, communications went out on the shuttle and they had to use ham radio to communicate with Mission Control.

But it's cool to see both of these great arts on the front page of the mainstream press again.

While this is not the first trick done in space, it may be the first "magic show" from space. We have been working on ideas for sometime. (Including developing 2 versions of card through window). In preparation a number of us (magicians) went on the Zero G flight with Richard. Given his training scheduled and our performance schedule, Richard will be performing a couple of interesting tricks in space. Sadly, card through window will have to wait until the next trip!

I just realised, Richard Garriott is the famed "Lord British", legendary video game designer (Of "Ultima" fame and others.).
That just makes this Uber-cool.

Edgar Mitchell conducted ESP experiments on Apollo 14 in 1971. He seems to be a true believer in paranormal, extra-terrestrials, UFOs, etc., so this doesn't really fall under the "magic" umbrella as is being discussed here.

This is great. I know Richard through e-mails over our mutual interest in the magic of Richard Gerlitz and Alan Warner.

His latest game release, I believe, is Tabula Rasa.

Steve?

Richard will be in space for 10 days. A group of us had a little lift off party for him in Austin. Everything went perfectly and he is en route to the ISS.

He has a pocket of magic goodies with him and I know he is eager to try some.

A belated congratulations on Richard's safe return to the Earth a month ago.

Does anyone have any updates on what [s]tricks[/s] effects he might have done on the Space Station?
