[font:Book Antiqua][size:14pt]George Schindler asked me to post his review.

ERIC DE CAMPS AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
A review by George Schindler

The title PURE MAGIC is the perfect description of the newest offering Eric DeCamps is bringing to New York City in this one man show. This is the third incarnation of the show and well worth seeing. Blending his close-up magical skills with humor, drama and masterful stage presence, Eric presents a menu of well done magic.

After his startling Burning Glass opening effect, the audience is entranced and captivated by his magnificent coin work in the first third of this three act program. His charm and talented manipulations draw gasps as silver dollars appear and reappear virtually without effort at his fingertips and disintegrate into a shower of sparkling glitter. This is followed by a reintroduction and streamlined Transmigration based on an old John Ramsey modernized for our time. His interactive use of the people sitting in the audience makes this contemporary torn and restored tissue twice as effective as the original.

The night club atmosphere is enhanced by the raised platform and excellent lighting and music. His well written patter is dramatic and yet he delivers it in a relaxed conversational manner. A new Against the Odds effect combines precognition and impossible chance happenings. This is followed by the best Ambitious Card sequence I have ever seen entitled, Houdinis Challenge, the audience is challenged as well. This routine could be a show in itself. Eric involves every member of the audience and his card skills go from good to great to pure magic. His rendition of the Rene Levand Bread Crumbs is one of the most amazing pieces of drama, theatrics and impossible magic that breathes life into the classic poem which he recites during the effect.

The last third of the show features Erics two signature pieces. The Pocket Mystery takes Malinis Egg Bag to a new level of startling magic with a surprise ending. As with all of his effects, Decamps explains the why of each one as he concludes with the, Spirit Box made from some of the wood salvaged from the famed Davenport cabinet.

The shows at the Metropolitan Room (34 W22nd Street 212 206 0440) will run every Sunday at 4 PM until December 28.

If you are in New York, this is a must see magical event.

[size:14pt][font:Book Antiqua]I want to thank everyone for their support of the current run of my show, Eric DeCamps - PURE MAGIC. We have been fortunate not only to have guests from the tri-state area but also from around the country and abroad. As in the past it has been great renewing old acquaintances, seeing friends and making new ones.

The special guest host for the December 28 concluding performance of Eric DeCamps PURE MAGIC A Performance of Contemporary Conjuring is Broadways multi-award-winning lighting designer and producer, Jules Fisher.

Over the course of his career, Jules Fisher has created lighting designs for more than 200 productions in Broadway and off-Broadway shows, as well as extensive work in film, ballet, opera, television, and rock-and-roll concert tours.

According to Mr. Fisher the job of the lighting designer is to inhabit the mind of the director, so they can translate the directors image into a living form onstage.

After 9/11, Jules Fishers expertise was utilized for the temporary memorial, Towers of Light. High-intensity beams of light were projected vertically to create two tall rectilinear volumes of white light, which would be visible from great distances.

Mr. Fisher has been nominated 18 times for Tony Awards and won eight Tony awards for Lighting Design, more than any other lighting designer.

Eric DeCamps PURE MAGIC A Performance of Contemporary Conjuring is a limited engagement and is running every Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm till December 28 at the Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street - 212 206 0440).

Week after week we have been fortunate to have a growing clientele and support for this show. Which in todays economic climate is, in a word, remarkable! I know this success is largely due to the magic community, magic aficionados, artists, industry associates and their family and friends that have taken the time out of their busy schedules to come out and not only embrace this show but also to recommend it to others.

I wish you all happy holidays and all the best for the forth coming year.

Eric DeCamps
