"Poof! Scientists Closer to Invisibility Cloak"

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

able to bend visible light around a sizable solid object?

still lost as to how such a camoflaged person or vehicle would be able to navigate or communicate.

This isn't a new development. Mac King has been doing it for years!

Why wouldn't they be able to navigate or communicate.

If light goes completely around a person, none will be entering their eyes, hence not being able to see anything/navigate. Communication would still, conceivably, be possible via normal audio signals, though not via radio (same problem as seeing things).

This is a flaw that haunts many sci-fi premises, from the Invisible Man to the cloaking devices seen on Star Trek.

Sigh, some folks have not read Planetary
or kept up with the news on metamaterials.

I'm guessing that the vehicle could have some very tiny cameras pointed in various directions. Yeah, the lens wouldn't be invisible, but it would look like a gnat from any distance. Also, I don't think these will completely "invisible." You will be able to see through/around them, but it will look like a haze or a "shimmer" in the air. You wouldn't know what was there, but you would know something is there.
