The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

A new Johnny Depp film that looks interesting.
Maybe nothing to do with magic, in a sense.
But theatrics no doubt.

The opening photo on the undeveloped website
just looks awesome...Like a bunch of automaton.

This is a Terry Gilliam film and notable for filming being halted (not the first time in Gilliam's case) as a result of Heath Ledger's death.

Rather than piece together the remainder of the film with a 'CGI'd' Heath, it was decided that Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law be hired to complete Mr Ledger's role - because of the subject matter of the movie, the titular Imaginarium, it was felt that this was an elegant solution to the problem at hand.

If anyone can make it work, Terry Gilliam is the guy.

It will be interesting to see the results.

Cheers

Do NOT read the synopsis on imdb if you have any thought of seeing the film. It's full of spoilers that will ruin the film for you.
