This isn't exposure. It's actually more like a modern spin on bunraku than black art magic.

Bunraku is a form of Japanese theater using complex puppets manipulated by puppeteers that, while dressed in black, are visible on stage.

Here's another example produced for Pepsi. Note: Even the debris in the "blow your house down" scene has a puppeteer.
