It all happened as if by magic.

Award-winning animation and comic writer Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Detective Comics) had a half-baked idea for a female hero named Madame Mirage hed been holding onto since the late 90s, but he could never quite flesh her out. Then he met his future wifestage magician Misty Lee.

Shes an illusionist and she makes these amazing appearances and disappearances, and she has a very dramatic lookit all sort of crystallized, says Dini, who married Lee in October of 2005. The two began discussing the idea of a female magical superheroHe was doing it as one of his many creative ways of wooing me, which I found quite charming, Lee saysand soon, Madame Mirage was fully realized, and ready to star in her own Top Cow ongoing series. But first, there was still the matter of defining her look. And for that, once again, Misty Lee pulled a rabbit out of her hat.
