Dante

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

I'm a big Laurel and Hardy fan and just bought the dvd of "A Haunting we will go" which featured Dante and his stage show. Cool to finally see and hear the man himself. I was shocked though to see that they didn't re-shoot a scene in which Dante levitates his assistant, because when he whisks the cloth away you see the huge metal wireform drop down onto the stage where is remains right next to Dantes feet! My eyes bugged out of my head when I saw that!!

My favorite L & H line: "Here, There and Thither"...I've used it hundreds of times over the years.

(Most of the time the line is met with a blank look)

Best comedy duo ever!

I finally saw that film a few months ago.

Luckily a good friend of ours borrowed
his on DVD. My dad has been wanting
to see it again. Because he remembers
when he made that film.

Throughly enjoyed it.

Along with seeing 'A-haunting', I saw two
very very extremely rare films of Dante.
that our friend allowed us to borrow.

One produced by Del O'Dell
and
a Danish film that Dante is speaking
in his native tounge.

Despite the fact I didn't understand
boo, I enjoyed just watching it.

Ever-so-often I take out the videos
I have Thurston, Dante & Papa Blackstone
to watch just to see why it was the
golden age of magic.
