How Many effects?

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

I am looking to find out how many magical effects there are. It seems there are various opinions as to what constitutes an 'effect'.

I have:

vanish
appearance
penetration
levitation
restoation
transformation
transposition
transportation
mind magic

What should be added or taken away?

In some ways, "transposition" and "transportation" are simply a combinaison of "apparence" and "disparition"...
I feel that an effect about creation of "impossible objects" can be added to the list, it is maybe only a variant of "transformation" but consider "Card Warp" for example...

I seem to remember a book by Dariel Fritsge or something like that that also listed the possible effects. It might be in "The Card Expert Entertains".

Jim,
The Fitzkee book you are referring to is called "The Trick Brain" and very interesting reading it does not tell you effects it explains the way things work and the different type of magic effects so you can be creative.I believe the book is still available. Dariel Fitzkee was a fairly prolific writer.

The effect is the important thing, how you achieve is not !!
