Promoting Public Shows

Post topics about the business side of magic.

Hi,
I am currently promoting a public magic show (stand up comedy magic) for adults and I am having trouble expressing the concept of the show. It is more trying to tell people what the show ISN"T then what it is.

I want my audiences to be clear that

a)It isn't a kid's show

b)I don't prance around in tight leather pants doing dodgy dance numbers.

Any idea?

Describe it as "Sophisticated Family Entertainment," "Stylish Magic" or "Devilishly Clever Entertainment." Leave out the word "family" if it isn't PG stuff.

"Hard hitting magic and contemporary comedy for the discriminating audience."

Good luck with your show.

Ray

Thanks! I like the world 'Devilish' and I hope to use it more in conversation. ;)

We solved this problem last summer with the publicity photo.

I was holding up a switchblade with a Joker impaled on it, and my partner Chris Ivanovich was holding a crystal ball with the Ace of Spades pip showing through it.

A friend described the photo as "He (talking about me) looks like he'd kill you. And he (Chris) looks like he'd let him do it."

The show was called, "Truth, Lies and Reality."

There was nothing non-family in the show, but we ended up only getting two kids. ;)
