Just back from the Houdini auction at the Swann Gallery. Among the folks there were David Blaine, Bill Kalush, Charles and Regina Reynolds, Joe Devlin, Michael Canick, Steve Brown (new partner at Tannen's), David "Silly Billy" Kaye, my neighbor Mark Mitton (we live in the same apartment building!), Richard Cohn, Doug Edwards, Roger Dreyer -- well, those are folks I recognized.

Prices were not low. The big surprise was a first edition of Henry Dean's "The Whole Art of Legerdemain, or, Hocus Pocus" which was estimated at a high price of $750 which sold for $34,000.

Blaine was very friendly to all, posing for photos and signing autographs. By the way, his new book, "David Blaine -- Mysterious Stranger" has just been published. I received my copy from Amazon.com this week.

Actually, I believe the winning bid was in the room, made by an agent for the actual buyer. The second bidder was on the phone.
