British Mentalism Team Info?

Postby Guest » May 16th, 2002, 11:03 am

I'm curious about the British husband/wife team, called (I believe) the Piddington's, who performed radio mentalism in the 50's.

Can anyone recommend a book or article about them?

Why were they such a sensation? And what was the story behind their "exposure"? What ever happened to them?

There has been article or monograph about them ... either in Magicol (the journal of the Magic Collectors Association) or a lecture at the convention with someone selling a monograph afterward.
Michael Edwards might remember ...

"The Piddingtons" were actually from Australia.

There was a book simply titled "The Piddingtons", written by Russell Braddon, that was published in 1950. I haven't read the book so I can't comment on the book's contents. I do recall reading somewhere that it was a rather sensationalised biography.

John Booth published an article about "The Piddingtons" in one of his columns in "The Linking Ring". I can't recall which issue it was published in, but perhaps there is a forum member who has access to "The Linking Ring on CD-ROM". He or she may be able to provide you with a specific reference.
