Sale Vs. Auction...

Postby Barajista » November 10th, 2004, 8:05 pm

Is it just me, or are others bothered when FS or For sale is used to advertise books/objects that are actually being auctioned (on Ebay or elsewhere), and thus not actually for sale? I guess I always understood the words "for sale" to mean that there is a fixed price for item for sale. Sorry if this is the wrong place to make this comment...if this comment is mis-placed, please let me know and I will place in the appropriate place!

Barajista,

As you can see, I moved your question into the general forum.

In answer to your question, in my opinion, it's just a matter of semantics. An item being auctioned is indeed for sale, just via an auction. As you know, we do ask (but do not require) that sellers make note in their subject line that the sale is an auction, and most of our sellers do that. As more folks get used to doing it, we'll have less confusion about what is a straight sale and what isn't.

Dustin
