A fairly comprehensive cross-indexed bibliography of all of Ed Marlo's material was prepared sometime in the 1960s or 1970s. I can't remember who did it, though I have one of the computer printouts. It's been very helpful!

The print-out was done by Jimmy (Cards) Molinari.
There will be a COMPLETE BIBLIOGRAPHY on MARLOPHILE.COM. I also published one in M-U-M magazine many years ago.

I'm currently reading The Unexpected Card Book, and am very curious to know why it was named as such? In the foreward Marlo simply explained, "Frankly, I did not expect to write this book. The title clearly indicates this. And since this volume was not a planned one..." That's it. But was it not planned because Marlo at the time was already planning for the Marlo's Magazine series, or were Marlo Magazine's also not planned? And if UCB wasn't planned, then what later on changed his mind?

Midpoint in the 70s there was a sea-change in Marlo's mind regarding the means and mediums whereby he contributed his ongoing Notes. Prior to that time, except for books he self-published or released through Frances Ireland, Marlo continually contributed items to various magazines. He preferred magazines sympathetic to card magic which also afforded him control over his material. (He did not want anything edited or expurgated.) He was a generous contributor to me (Hierophant, Kabbala) and when my publishing enterprise slowed and stumbled, he had a lot of material on hand--not to mention stuff he had been "holding back" for years.

Some of the material that eventually appeared in THE UNEXPECTED BOOK was slated to appear in my publications. Because I was unable to do so, Marlo decided to put out a book, which to his mind, had not been planned. Also, his fan-base of about 300-400 consumers did not expect such a book from Marlo at the time it was released. Therefore, Marlo aptly titled it THE UNEXPECTED CARD BOOK because it was INDEED unexpected.

Later, due to the prompting and encouragement of the Chicago sodality (Solomon, Aronson, Draun, Malone...), particularly Dave Solomon, Marlo decided to put out his own, giant, affordable magazine. I also think Dave Solomon who the guy suggesting the title, MARLO'S MAGAZINE.

I hope this partially provides SOME of "the rest of the story"...

I've noticed one or two others missing from the list. I do have a current list of over 3,100 items of Ed's and what reference they are from. So it can be printed as a bibliography. It is still a 'work in process' but quite a bit of information. I'll try and get something to you in the near future. I know we talked once before about this.
