mirror gag

Postby Andrew Martin Portala » January 10th, 2007, 6:33 am

I was wondering who came up with the mirror gag?
The one where someone takes a card then you turn your back and hold up a small pocket mirror.
Thanks

Dedi and I worked out one with a gimmick from Leonardo, but didn't put it in print.

Gamblers came up with the "shiner" first ages ago, probably from someone noticing the reflection in his ring as he dealt the cards.

Probably someone who said the first "its all done with mirrors"

The very early versions have been standing in front of a lake trying to catch reflection of the card.

I'm talking about the gag.The joke.
In Genii January 1996 in The Locked Room written by Gordon Bean.Rich Marotta discuss his Card in the orange routine. To quote him ,"Now ,when I turn around, and say, "Show it to the audience",I take out a mirror and peek the card. This is gag..."
Did Rich Marotta come up with piece of business or did some else??
Thanks
