MagicTimes Calls it Quits

Postby Dustin Stinett » January 1st, 2004, 12:32 am

After 2,092 issues, with issue 2,093 (dated January 1, 2004) Meir Yedid has announced that his terrific MagicTimes site will cease daily magic news reporting (though the Magic TV Guide and other affiliated sites will continue). This is sad for us all--MagicTimes has been my homepage for a very long time--but his reasons, made clear on the site, are quite understandable. Meir will publish an e-news letter, so be sure to sign up for that! And of course, all you magic news junkies are free to post news here in our Buzz forum.

Good luck Meir, and best wishes, Happy New Year and most of all, thank you very much!

Dustin

I'd be extremely curious to hear from all of you who've regularly read Magic Times. Please post a brief note here if you've read it.

I'll admit to being a MagicTimes junkie - it was the first site I'd check each morning. I'm very appreciative of all the time Mr. Yedid put into the site and look forward to seeing who will step up to the plate and take over the task next. Meir set the bar high and his work will be missed.

I'm sorry to hear it too. :( I only collect Houdini material, but this site(and Genii Forum) were the only magic sites I checked daily. It had all the the latest news etc. I really looked forward to reading every weekday.

Congrats to Meir for a great run. ;)

I read it weekly, along with TV Magic Guide. In fact, I believe it was the first magic website I came across when I got back into magic about 6 years ago and turned to the world wide web for resources.

I will miss it. I checked in every three or four days and found it very usefull. It must have a monumental task for Meir and I am surprised he did it as long as he did.
Thank You for a huge effort, it was appreciated.

Magic Times was my first stop after logging on (just before the Forum) for quite a while. When Meir went to a less frequent schedule, so did I - I still check in every 3-4 days. Meir's site is always informative and he seems to have sources others don't! I'm sure it's a gigantic pain, but I'll miss it just the same! Thanks, Meir! --Asrah

Yep, every morning and my wife read it too.
The Magic Times will be sadly missed.
But hey I still got my coffee with my french vanilla creamer and the genii forum. :D

Magic Times was one of only two magic sites (the other being this one) that I went to daily. It was a class act and will be a real loss to the online magic community.

Every day...it was my home page. Meir did a fantastic job. I just hope everyone realizes the huge amount of work it took to run it. I'm amazed and glad he hung in there this long!

Magic Times has been an exceptional resource. The amount of work it took to maintain was enormous and we are all deeply indebted to Meir Yedid for bringing us this wonderful site for so long. Thank you, Meir.

I checked it every single day as soon as I got to the office. Or had it bookmarked on my laptop when I was travelling.

I will miss it dearly and thank Meir for all of his dedicated work in bringing it to us for this long.

I also checked it daily and found it a tremendous resource. I especially liked the fact that there were no "politics" or "opinions" just information on what was happening in magic and links to follow up on any particular story.
I will definitely miss it and want to add my appreciaition to Meir Yedid for providing such a quality resource for as long as he did.

Many thanks to Meir for his continued dedication and contributions to our little community. His "MagicTimes" was just one more example of how one person can use the internet wisely, and indeed make a difference around the world. For over six years, he kept us all up-to-date with show news, lecture tours, news articles, death notices and breaking news, faster and more accurately than anyone else. Although I am a bit saddened at the loss of getting my daily "Magic Times" fix, I believe this is just another one of those "transition" things, and that it won't be long until Meir surprises us again! I'm sure that bigger and better things are on the horizon!

Thanks for all of your tireless work, Meir!

Best to all in 2004!

I will definitely miss Yedid's MagicTimes. I logged onto it weekly and always enjoyed its content. MagicTimes and the TV Magic Guide is a great service to the magic world and Meir deserves major recognition for it! I think that to show our support, we should all place an order on his site as a way of saying THANKS!

MagicTimes was one of the 3 sites I tried to check everyday. It will take a huge commitment from anyone who hopes replace it, or at least follow in its shoes. Labours of love like MagicTimes are what prove that there are people willing to give back to magic as much, if not more, than they've gotten out of it.

Thanks for everything Mr Yedid,
Grant

Magic Times was my designated home page & I would download the text from the site to my PDA daily (via Avantgo), in case I needed to read it away from my computer.

I will miss Magic Times.

I also checked Meir's site practically on a daily basis. I had a sad feeling the demise was near when Meir discontinued the weekend updates a short while back.
This was a lot of time and work for him and I too want to express my appreciation for all his efforts.

I've been checking Magic Times for so long I probably started taking it for granted. I think we tend to forget how much work was involved and that it did not magically produce itself..

Thank You Meir for all the time and energy you put in over the years

Add my voice to the chorus...I checked it almost every day. It was a wonderful resource to have and it will be sorely missed. I can only imagine how much time this project must have taken, and I'm glad he's keeping the archives online.

But now I'll have to find another daily fix for magic news.... :(

Thanks for the long, happy, and informative run!

List me as a regular reader and an amazed fan of Meir's dependability! BRAVO to you, Meir, on what has to be a peerless performance. I have subscribed to the "new series" (forgive the paper periodical jargon...) with hope and confidence!

I was another regular reader of the Magic Times. I am so sorry to see it go, but I understand the necessity. Thanks to Meir for all of the work that it took to keep us all informed. Guess I'll have to find a new home page.
