Steve;Ex-Dell dude, ex-magician busted..
Steven the Dell computer dude, best known for his line "Dude, your getting a Dell" (real name Ben Curtis), was busted for allegedly buying marijuana on the Lower East Side on Sunday night. Ben, was in a Tuxedo jacket, as the NYPD's operation drug Condor program busted the ex-Tannen's summer camper. Being in a Tuxedo you might be asking, "Was he perhaps resorting back to doing gigs since the Dell company recently decided not to back any more of the "Dude" campaigns.."No, probably not. He was also in Kilt, beige kneesocks, and white sneakers.

Are you sure it wasn't the fashion police who arrested him?

Ben is a former member of the Chattanooga, TN IBM ring.
Sure, it's easy to make fun of him. But really, do we as a society want to put people in jail for this? How many of your friends in magic have some exposure on this front? How many of us on the Genii forum?

Dude, can't you order that on-line? Factor or Fiction: MaxNY went to the University of Texas with the Dell brothers...and stayed on the same dorm floor, for a semster??? Could the burnt, sweeeeet talking magician with blonde hair be based on some past admiration? Dude I was getting all the sweeeet, back when they were locked up repairing computers in their dorm. Now, I can't even figure out how to start a new paragraph on this board...and they're getting all the sweeeet.

His career with Dell has been over for some time. Since they started the insipid "interns" series, "Steven" has only showed up in a cameo at the tail end of one spot.Originally posted by Pete Biro:

What's unfortunate for him is that he wasn't able to translate the exposure into something bigger. But it's not the first time. Where are Herb (from Burger King), Spuds McKenzie, the Swedish Bikini Team, any of a dozen other people who had their 15 minutes and then faded away?

Re: Steve;Ex-Dell dude, ex-magician busted..
I heard a rumor,(or did the rumor mill get killed off?) that he was hired during part of the SAG boycott...and "jumped" lines for the Steve job. I don't know if he just didn't turn it into something else, or if he was blacklisted. You know, this might be all part of a "Shake the Steve Image" plot. Getting busted just might help his career. And everyone knows any publicity is good publicity...get busted wearing a kilt! That'll get ya on page six of a NY paper!

Re: Steve;Ex-Dell dude, ex-magician busted..
It's always deadly to even start a conversation about things like this - With "Steve", it's not a question of how much harm can an illegal controlled substance do by ingesting it - The question is: Why, when you're riding a wave of popularity, that could possibly set you up for years to come, would you buy an illegal controlled substance, #1 and #2 why would you buy it from someone you don't know???How many of your friends in magic have some exposure on this front? How many of us on the Genii forum?
Just Friggin' stupid!!!

There are plenty of places to buy pot at NYU without going on the street. The first thing I leared at NYU was not to buy pot on the streets. It a core curriculum class, buying drugs.

Re: Steve;Ex-Dell dude, ex-magician busted..
Dave, I think his wave of popularity was over. I thought of him as the butt of many Late Night TV jokes. The guy probably made about a million doing six or seven days of work, and he can't land a roll because of the typecast difficulties. It's a tough situation, one that only a select few have experienced. I see him as the next Sean Penn, (Spiccolli). Somebody must have coached him into getting busted. Start the next typecast as a bad-boy, the surfer dude (computer-surfer dude) is dead.
---Maybe magic needs a surfer-dude. I can see that type of guy doing comedy magic, it hasn't been done yet...
---Brian, I'm sure this wasn't NYU pot, he has probably acquired the taste for Hollywood pot...That stuff probably ran out, so he had to hit the streets.

Magic has Lorenzo Clark for its current "surfer-dude" magician. Don't think there is much call for another one...

This one's played out. If anyone has a viable spin-off topic, please feel free to start the appropriate thread. Meanwhile, thanks for the knockabout confab.
