Academy of Magical Arts Awards Nominations

Postby Dustin Stinett » February 15th, 2003, 1:16 pm

The nomination ballots for the AMA awards have been sent to the members this week. In looking over it, I am a quite disappointed in the fact that Eugene Burger, Tina Lenert and Max Maven have only separate entries for the Stage Magician of the year award. There absolutely should have been an entry for the "Nocturnal Trio." This show was more than three individuals doing their acts. It was a piece of theater: a type of which is woefully under-represented in the art of magic and the Academy, whether through choice or oversight, have missed the opportunity to recognize this wonderful show.

Haven't received my ballot yet, Dustin, so this is news to me. Unpleasant, and not unexpected.

Your comments about the nature of the "Nocturnal Trio" show are right, and in fact I have no desire to be listed individually.

Of course, no one bothered to ask.

Unfortunatly, I am not surprised by the seperate listings. It would have helped if some of the powers that be at the castle, understood the difference between a trick, an act and a show.

It would have helped even more if most (or better yet all) of the powers that be at the Castle had actually taken the time to walk into the Palace that week and witness the Nocturnal Trio performance!

Well for what it's worth (and I don't think it will be worth much) I wrote in "Nocturnal Trio" on my ballot.

Scott,

Perhaps we should try to start a "write in campaign" on the web? I doubt if it would work, but what the hey.

I'm all for a write-in campaign. Just wish it would work.
