A friend of mine called Bernard Bilis a couple minutes ago and Bilis was very surprised -if not amused- to learn that he had passed away... especially since it wasn't the first phone call of this kind since this morning.

Learning you're dead - always a great way to start the day!

Keep the great info coming, Richard! ;)

Bernard Bilis is my favorite close up magician.
I almost died my self when I read it.
Please try to check before you post things like that.

Maxim: it was posted as a question, NOT as fact. I posted it for the very purpose of finding an answer--I posted it in order to "check" on it.

Maxim,
Remember where you seen this QUESTION posted i.e. Gossip and Rumors.
Thankfully it has been dispelled but remeber this isn't called Facts and Truths.

Hi

First, I didn't see anything wrong with Richard posing the Bilis question. It certainly prompted me to make enquiries. In the end the rumour was quashed quickly. Probably far quicker than had Richard emailed individuals.

However, regarding this section of the board "Gossip & Rumors": This is subheaded
"Discuss the latest news and rumors in the magic world," and is it the only section for news I can see.

For example, I recently posted the results of a communication I had with Martin Breese and the Pabular CDROM. These were the facts as they were given to me. They were neither gossip nor rumour. But I could see no other section to post NEWS.

To Richard: It might be beneficial if this section were renamed News, Gossip & Rumors, as I did feel a little uneasy posting facts here.

Best Wishes

Peter

I will tell why I think it was a mistake.
When someone like Richard ,Which I respect very much, write something like that, I was sure it was true.
This subject is to sensitive to publish before you know the facts.
I am sure that a lot of Billis friends felt very bad.

I agree. There are many ways to handle this situation that would have caused less tension amongst the community. Having said that, I would also be willing to bet that Richard's intent was to find out if what he heard was true and not to intentionally stir up trouble. I guess we should chalk it up to social clumsiness.

Richard said it was a rumor. He's a journalist, checking his facts. Thankfully, Bernard Bilis, a magician whose work I admire, is OK.

He's feeling alright. I'm not feeling that good myself.

So many people think it was OK to act like Richard did.
I was wrong.
I am sorry for my remarks.

I, for one, am quite happy to hear that Bernard is a-okay. Now, my concern is that I've been hearing rumors lately that I'm dead, and I was wondering if there is any truth to that. If anyone can, hopefully, confirm that this rumor is false, please, please do so.

Thanks,

Lance

Richard, we know that you were not motivated by malice against Bernard in making your post. Whoever started the rumor, however, almost certainly was.

I know from a mutual friend that Bernard is eager to track down the source of this rumor. You could help by posting whom you heard the rumor from. (So far, no one else seems to have heard it but you.) If you don't want to post the person's name publicly, perhaps you could e-mail it to Bernard.

I also want to thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

I think it's enough to say that, happily, Bernard is alive and well and living in Paris. Let's close the topic and move on without turning it into some sort of melodrama.

I mean, really, what could someone gain by spreading the rumor that Bernard had died? In the age of the internet it was easily disproven in a few hours.

Lance,
I know this is off topic, and may actually have been brought up elsewhere: any date planned on the Malone book?
I said before that the Klause book is one of my favorites, and if the Malone book is anything like that, I'm sure it will be also.
just aksin'

The WHO book?

Oh. Him.

Well, we've just started, really. We're in the "material-gathering stage." So far, I have Sam the Bellhop. He's promised me more. I'm debating whether to put thirty routines in one book or sell thirty pamphlets at $15 a piece. What do you guys think?
