The preview is great stuff...but then P&T are among my favorites of all time. Who says the Masked Magician killed tricks like Metamorphosis for ever? Anything that involves holding your breath under water even for a few seconds(Houdini Water Tourture Escape, for example) scares the crap out of me. Great suspense.

NASCAR Sucks! They went long with their race and NBC joined Penn and Teller in progress. Really sucks.

Missed the first twelve minutes or so...

Probably just the first illusion and set-up for the rest of the show, but what were they thinking.

I heard a radio commercial advertising tonight's programming line up, starting with Penn & Teller. The premise is we overhear a couple of guys and a girl discussing things...

Girl: "Whatchs gonna do tonight?
Guy 1: "Oh, I'm gonna watch the Penn & Teller Special. They're gonna do some tricks underwater... and then show how they're done!
Guy 2: Oh, yeah - and make the other magicians mad!
Guy 1: Who cares? Those guys still live with their mothers anyway...
-All Laugh-

It goes on to plug the rest of the night's shows from there.

Magicians still get no respect. In terms of repect from the general perception, I think the bottom three of the performace artists are:

- Clowns
- Magicians
- Mimes

I think we're next to the bottom. What do you think?

I'd probably put magicians after mimes because you never hear a good mime bitch about anything.

OK...now that I watched the 1 hour and 42 minutes that NBC aired in our market... I have a few more thoughts about the show.

First of all...I was grateful that Penn was on his best behavior (family hour on network TV helped that, although I'm sure the outtakes are hilarious). I personally am not a big fan of Magic Porn.

Secondly, there were a few magical moments in the show - Tellers liar routine was interesting. And the set-up audience cut-aways were fantastic (especially when they were following Tellers shoes as though he were rotating while levitating). I also had to laugh that it wasn't Penn in most of the underwater footage.

But, I was very uncomfortable with the Sub Trunk/Cage exposure, and the Box Production. The 52 outs for the selected card was really humorous -- the average layperson might believe that's the way all card tricks are done, but P&T make that stuff really entertaining. The Ring Thing was a little less heinous -- more a novelty with the Dolphins (who BTW we're sending subliminal messages to the viewers at home about the impending outing of Penn as a "Dolphinophile" and "So long, thanks for all the fish."

The biggest shaggy dog tale of them all was the last visual of the helicopters flying away with that sub. Nice compositing work. Real video magic. And no camera tricks (there was no camera involved).

Par for the course...I'm sure P&T are laughing at all of us.

Using helicopters to take loads like that in major contrurction projects is common. Don't think the weight was what they said it was and don't think that wasn't how they did it.

Sadly, I think they have NO RESPECT for others, for the magic, or anything but their own self promotion and money.
