'New' Kaufman Books?
'New' Kaufman Books?
There is a rumour that 'Seance' is about to be reprinted, along with other titles. Apparently there is an advert in the new Genii.
As someone who is yet to receive this month's issue, could anyone provide more details on these rumours of reprints or new books?

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
the advertisement is on page 101 of the November issue.
it does list Seance at $75, but with a Pre-publication price of $60. along with John Bannon's Smoke and Mirrors also reprinted. $45, but Pre-publication at $35.
those pre-publication prices are for orders by November 15.

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
Books are scheduled to ship from the printer to the distribution warehouse on Oct.28.
Seance is actually finished--saw my advance copies the other day. But it will get held until all the books are done so all can ship together on the same truck.

All books are ready to order and ship immediately.
Seance
Smoke and Mirrors
etc.
The Genii office will be closed until Tuesday, so I'd wait until then before calling, however you can still order by fax or e-mail before then.

When can we expect a reprinting of The Amazing Miracles of Shigeo Takagi? That's just about at the top of my wishlist these days.

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
We can supply all newly reprinted books, with Smoke and Mirrors and Seance at prepublication prices ($10 discount). We also don't charge postage in the US (and for foreign SURFACE MAIL orders).
Just call the Genii office: 301-652-5800.
I'm hopeful that Warlock will be delivered at the end of December (too much traveling has kept me from reviewing the final proofs).
Work is proceeding steadily on the layout of The Vernon Touch book, and work is also proceeding on Mr. Jennings Takes It Easy.

Any plans on another reprint of Greater Magic? If not, I guess I'll have to keep looking on ebay. :(

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
I understand that there was enough material from Takagi for a second volume, but Vol 1 really didn't sell that well, hence no second volume.

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
Hi George.
For a book that didn't sell very well it sure is hard to find. Maybe we can convince Richard to publish a "collected works," including the additional material intended for vol 2. Okay... I know... wishful thinking (but I'm an optimist at heart).

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
There was never a projected second volume of Takagi's material--only a few items didn't make it into the book.
I think you're talking about Sawa's Library of Magic, Vol.1. Yes, it sold poorly when it came out 20 years ago. Took me years to sell the first printing. It's a long story as to why there are no further volumes in the series (other than poor sales), but suffice it to say that Sawa refused to give me the material I really wanted, and for which he was famous at the time.

Thanks for clearing that up, Richard! AS the calcium deposts harden in my brain the memory circuits don't always give me accurate info...
You're of course correct, it was Sawa's I was referring to.

Hmmm... seems to me that the question regarding the Takagi book remains unanswered. :) Even so, I found the string to be informative, and it's always a pleasure when Mr. Kaufman chimes in. Thanks to you, too, George!

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
It would be my pleasure to reprint the The Amazing Miracles of Shigeo Takagi--it's a GREAT book, with lots of great material in it (including excellent Linking Ring and standup rope routines).
But I haven't done it, and have no plans to do it, because it doesn't seem like there's enough demand.

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
Well, if you ever do you can count on me to drum up as much support as possible (and I'll even buy two copies for good measure). I have yet to even see the book, but I've culled so much great Takagi material from the issues of Apocalype that I cannot help but think it must be a terrific book. --If anyone out there is sitting on a copy for sale I hope you'll e-mail me.-- Thanks again for the responses!

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
Michael Albright is sailing along in laying out The Vernon Touch. Hope to have it out in the spring.
I think Noah Levine is about finished with his edit of Mr. Jennings Takes it Easy.
I've just been hired to write Criss Angel's book for the public for Harper Collins--so my time is going to be very limited for a while.

Humbly; did I simply miss out on the Seance reprint? or is it available anywhere now? (How many were reprinted anyway?)
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
Is Bannon's Smoke & Mirrors out of print again already? I wanted to recommend to someone to buy it directly from RK but it doesn't seem to be on the website anymore. I could have sworn it was fairly recently reprinted.

I no longer carry Smoke and Mirrors, but it is wholesaled by Murphy's and should be available from most magic shops.

I gotta say that the new Brother John reprint (just arrived today) is something else!
I'm completely taken by some of the material in this book.
This is one fine volume.

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
I envy you the experience of exploring the material for the first time. I got the Hamman book some years ago -- I hadn't given up magic, but I'd been away from it for some time. Maybe that's why the book had such a big impact on me, or maybe it's the quality of the material and the excellence of the writing -- probably both. Either way, it got my creative juices flowing again in a big way and put magic back into the forefront of my thoughts. It remains my favorite Kaufman book as well as one of my favorite card books. Now if I could just get the Multiplying Kings to look the way I want...Originally posted by silverking:

Re: 'New' Kaufman Books?
"Multiplying Kings" is one of the toughest tricks in the book because of the false count (I think it's the Count Back, but can't quite remember). The rhythm and fingering take a lot of practice, but WHAT A TRICK!
Brother John would be very pleased to hear that you've enjoyed his book.
