Books that have not been published.
There were a number of books that were announced by Mr. Kaufman many years ago that I am interested in that have not been published yet. Among them were books containing the magic of Sol Stone, Geoff Latta, Harvey Rosenthal, Jay Sankey and another David Roth work. What's the scoop? Are there any others by other publishers that have been held up?

Tamariz in English... one day...
After reading Jon's recent column, I'm extremely anxious for Mike Rogers' swan song.

To take your questions in order:
1) Sol Stone's book is written, and photographs for the drawings have been taken. The current state of the magic book market, however, makes it unlikely that a book which consists of almost entirely reprinted material (from CoinMagic and Apocalypse) would repay its publication cost ($10,000 plus).
2) I have sold the Geoff Latta book to Stephen Minch and progress is being made on the manuscript, written by Stephen Hobbs.
3) I started videotaping Harvey Rosenthal's coin tricks for a book on coin magic in 1991 or 1992. There were over a hundred items and it took years to get most of it taped. We still have not finished! Hope to get that one restarted later this year.
4) The new Jay Sankey book is both written and illustrated, and should get layed out in the next two to three months, then off to the printer. 81 items.
5) The new David Roth book ... beats me! I paid him an advance years ago for a second book and I've been hoping that eventually he'll have enough material.
Now, as far as the Tamariz books are concerned, Stephen Minch is publishing those and the first is expected out next year (2002).
Any other questions? ;)

Richard,
I have a question for you about the Tenkai book project as well. I translated portions of the Japanese text of a Tenkai manuscript for you about 6 or 7 years ago. Will this project ever see light?
Thanks!
Steve

The Tenkai book is still in process. We are slowly collecting all the necessary material. This will be a great book when it comes out!
By the way, the most famous book that was never published is Steranko's The Ultimate Move. It may come out one of these days ...

"Steranko on Cards" is one of my favorite books. I know Steranko is a prolific illustrator but do you know if he is still connected to magic in any way? I would be very interested in any new publications about Steranko's magic.

Re: Books that have not been published.
3 or so years ago, Lennart Green lectured in Atlanta. While there, he mentioned that he had "sessioned" with Steranko as part of that particular visit to America. Later that summer, I was helping to put together the talent for the SEAM convention here in Huntsville, and emailed Steranko about possibly appearing. He said that he had recently been getting back into magic, but was not ready to perform in any public forum yet. That was 1998, and I haven't heard anything about him and magic since.

FLIM-FLAM ?
In Magic Magazine September 2000 Bob Farmer writes to us that it will be his last Flim- Flam column for a few months, because Kaufman & Company will be puplishing a hard back compilation of all of the Flim-Flams from the pages of MAGIC. When will we see The Flim Flam Book?

The Flim-Flam book will come out when and if Bob Farmer ever finishes writing it! He's a very busy entertainment attorney and has a family. So, he doesn't have a lot of free time.

Re: Books that have not been published.
Mr. Kaufman, regarding the unpublished works that are listed here, has things changed since last year? And where does the next Jennings' book fit among these? Whatever happened to Sawa vol. 2?
Do you have a priority list for all your unpublished books, or they change from time to time?
Finally, what's the current state of the magic book market?
Thanks.

Re: Books that have not been published.
I e-mailed Steven Minch re the Tamariz Books. Here is his reply:
"Currently we are working hard to get two large new works of Juan's to press:
"Mnemonica" (his two-volume treatise on the memorized deck) and "Flamenco"
(a large collection of new sleights, tricks and routines). After that we
will turn our attention to new editions of "The Five Points in Magic", "The
Magic Way" and "Sonata". We hope to do all this, with a bit of luck, during
the next three to four years. Thanks for your interest!"
Sincerely,
Stephen Minch

Now, if I can stand the wait, I won't have to pay through the nose on E-Bay.

Does anyone know what might be in the new Sankey book? Also, when is Darwin Ortiz's new book scheduled to come into print?

Any news at all on the Sankey tome?Originally posted by Richard Kaufman:4) The new Jay Sankey book is both written and illustrated, and should get layed out in the next two to three months, then off to the printer. 81 items.
From this posted over a year ago, it sounded like it was pretty much ready to go. Did the deal fall through or get delayed? I'm guessing that book would be eagerly embraced once it's released.

Re: Books that have not been published.
Putting Genii out on time every month just doesn't leave a lot of extra time to put in the work necessary for most books. A year ago I didn't have a daughter, now I do. So, even fewer books will get done!
