The sometimes shorthand descriptions in Enc. Of Card Tricks make it a less than optimal beginners book.
There is a thread here (and many on Magic Cafe) about recommended started books on Card Magic.

i received this book for xmas, as im very much a begginner im just picking and choosing tricks that i can work effectivly, also as recomeded here i also bought richard kauffman basic card technique.

Yes and no
Yes because a lot's of the trick are not complicated to do without difficult sleight and will require things that often beginers has purchased (stripper deck, invisible, etc)
No because there's no illustration and some of the technique taught or magic term can be difficult to understand for 1st timers.
Also the lack of presentation guide, patters and such is a minus for beginers who in my book need some how to perform to help them built confidence in presenting theses tricks.
