Stat-O-spheres
Stat-O-spheres
I recently picked up a used Stat. I do not have the instructions.
Could someone help me with this rutine please.
Also, what is the "story" you tell with this?

Re: Stat-O-spheres
Hi Michael,
Well, first of all it's "Strat-o-Spheres"--"STRAT" not "STAT."
You show the three different colored balls and an empty clear tube. The cover tube has a dupe of one of the balls in it held in place by a spring near the top. You cover the tube with opaque outer tube. You put in the two balls that do NOT match the dupe ball. They go on top of the dupe ball and force it to the bottom of the tube. The audience doesn't see this because of the opaque cover.
Now you take the ball that's the same as the dupe ball and you drop it into the box. Open the box and show the ball has vanished, then lift the cover of the tube and show that the ball of the same color has supposedly traveled under those in the tube.
Patter? You're on your own.

Matt, that is brilliant, may I use that with my close-up version?

Mike -- You used to amaze me when you were working behind the counter at Tannen's. You amaze me even more now (at least on the videos I've seen of you in action).
I've got even better patter for the close-up version, you devil.

Re: Stat-O-spheres
I usually perform Strat-O-Spheres for kid shows...
My patter revolves around the idea that the trick is brand new...and I don't have the directions...but I want to show them anyway. So, I say "First, I put these plastic balls in the way they're on the front." I do that. "I stare at it. Then lift the tube." Then they're not in the same order anymore. Kids love that.
I repeat that because I thought I did it wrong somehow. Same thing happens. The rest of the routine continues for me trying to figure out what is the right way to put the balls in.... with the finale of the red ball to dissappear.

Hey, thanks for the help. How do you all work this in your routine? In the middle, beginning?

Mike,HEY...dems dere is fightin' words
If you've got 'meaty forearms' like Lou, I'll decline the invitation to rumble.
Is your brother Joey still involved in magic at all?
Regards,
John
Re: Stat-O-spheres
I use a micro sized version for close-up work - unfortunately I have to hold it over the spectator's heads so they don't see into the top of my perfectly ordinary opaque tube. --Asrah

John,
Yes, Joey is still doing magic. Although it has slowed down somewhat for him due to his Dental practice and family life. But none the less, he still recieves ahhhs from both patients and patrons...how lucky he is :)

Re: Stat-O-spheres
One red ball, one green ball, and one ... hmmmmmm.
You could always dump the tube and balls and just use the really cool box to PRODUCE a long Christmas garland of gold or silver tinsel.

Re: Stat-O-spheres
Could you use Christmas Tree bulbs... you know the ones you stick on the tree (ornaments).
You could have a red/green/yellow one to match the metal cylinder. OR repaint the metal cylinder to match whatever color scheme you'd like.
It'd work almost the same... just make sure they won't break when you stick them in the top of the tube.
INteresting idea, but I'm unsure of its practicality.

Re: Stat-O-spheres
As this effect, to me at least, always seemed a bit "contrived", it has not been one I have ever purchased. I did, however, the other day see it performed in a manner that I thought worked. The performer was a magical, juggling clown. I forget exactly the sequence, but he was juggling, has a ball, or balls perhaps, of a color he did not like. Put them in Strat...and they came out like he wanted. It worked with the juggling and seemed natural.
