Where do you buy yours?

Postby Guest » January 8th, 2003, 9:47 am

I hope this is the right place to post this.
I need to buy one or more tuxedos for stage and formal strolling work. I live in a fairly small town and don't have a good selection or price range locally. Where do you recommend I shop online for a tux, where should I NOT shop and do you have any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance. Bob

Bob,
I honestly would suggest that you take a weekend and drive to the largest centre near you that sells tuxedos and get the best one that you possibly can. Do NOT purchase one of their used ones either. You want to look your very best and a tuxedo is your work uniform that you will use so invest in it. You want it to fit you perfectly (something that will not happen if you purchase it on-line) and look the best possible on you. Do not skimp or try for a cheap route as it will look like just that. You really do get what you pay for and as perception is everything, your audience will see that reflected on you the moment you walk out in a quality tuxedo.

Make a relationship with a good bespoke tailor.
He will be able to make clothes fit you properly & add all those little extras that are so very useful to a magician !!!

I went to a tux rental outfit and asked "Do you sell new tuxes?" They said they did and had a great selection.

I also bought an olde fashioned tail suit for $75 that is terrific for certain occasions.
Stay tooned.

If you can wear a 39-41 Short, and a 34 inch waist, I've got a Brooks Brothers notch lapel tux in perfect condition; alas, it's been outgrown by yours truly's middle-aged spread.
