Multiplying Bottles

Postby sundar » April 9th, 2005, 10:25 pm

This message is directed to Pete Biro in particular. Pete, I saw you do the multiplying bottles at the Oakland Magic Circle nearly 15 years ago and fell in love with the effect. Now, I wish to add this to my act. In searching for sources to buy from, the prices seem to vary very widely from $75.00 to high as $675.00 (quote from Owens) for a set of 8 bottles. Could you please provide some guidance on what to look for?

Also, I have been hunting for Ken Brook's routine for this with little success. I have read that the Ken Brooks bottles had features unique to them - any truth in this and does one need these to do his routine.

Any advice will be much valued and appreciated.

You want NINE bottles (three nests of three). You can get the book on the routine at www.stevensmagic.com look for Multiplying Martinis.

Harries makes an excellent set. Do NOT buy the 8 set from India.

The Rings N Things (older) version is good too, but hard to find and bring $$$$$.

The bottles Ken sold were dark green with plastic tubes (2). They had a lip on the inner top edge that made them easier to un-nest -- but I have used different versions (Harries and RnT) wihtout any trouble.

Again, thanks for asking... I'll probably to the routine in May at the Karmien convention in Portland area.

PETE: Thanks for showing me the Ken Brooks set at Kramien's Jamboree. Are these spun aluminum ? and are spun aluminum bottles durable or for that reason do they come in spun steel? The most reasonably priced ($350.00) 9-bottle set is sold by Denny & Lee, but is spun aluminum. Furthermore these do not have the bend at the mouth a la Ken Brooks. Is this a handicap during performance ? Value your advice. Thanks.

Ken's were spun aluminum. You don't need the lip, it just makes it a tad easier to tell each nest from the next, but that really isn't a need as you can easily to them with almost any set.

I hope you enjoyed the routine at Kramien's.

PETE: Yes, indeed. I got hooked on the routine when I first saw you perform at one of the Oakland Magic Circle events in the ealry 1990s. I have had it in my list of effects to learn/perform ever since. Thanks again.

Speaking of bottles: Where can I get the very best in replacemaent labels? I have a brand new set of 9 bottles, with the lip on the larger two of each set, (Ken Brooke?) and these bottles have never been labeled. Many thanks!
