Magic Award Show on TV

Postby Pete Biro » January 6th, 2002, 9:19 pm

Just finished watching it and er, uh... hmmm...

Ed Alonzo's "fan levitation" really fits his personna...

Ayala can do no wrong...

Much of it (eh)... Escape stuff doesn't entertain... at least not me...

As much as I like Mystina, watching her do T&R newspaper made me think how wrong the effect is.

Why does a mage tear it up then restore it?

If you didn't want it... tear it up and throw it away.

If you wanted a paper what if you found several pieces laying on the floor, picked 'em up and shook out to find a fully good and readable paper?

Doug Henning got away with the "illusion" of tearing the paper routine. Others have not.

Why not try a routine where the performer "reads" a bad review of their performance, tears paper up in disgust, proceeds to restore it with a more favorable review?

Just an idea......

That is a pretty cool Idea but it does say to the audience "I USED TWO DIFFERENT NEWSPAPERS"

Pete Biro is right. I think it also depends on what the change looks like.

Don't know who had the idea first but Stan Allen and Bill Goldman both have the idea of starting with torn pieces in their lecture notes and Avner the Eccentric has been using that idea for at least 15 years. The marketed "No Tear" version is based upon this premise as well.
