Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Happy New Year to everyone!!!
I've been reading "Secrets of an Escamoteur" over the last couple of weeks. In his linking ring routine, Riser mentions that he uses a "notch and pin" locking key ring. He also states that any locking key ring would suffice. Instead of reinventing the wheel, I'd rather use a key ring that closely resembles his. Does anyone out there have a source for such a "notch and pin" key ring?
Thanks all!!!!!
Glen

I haven't seen one of these sold for years. Wouldn't a magnetic key work just as well?

Hi Glenn-I think Joe Porper's Locking Key Ring resembles the one in the Riser book. It's the Key I plan on buying...
Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Thanks everyone! Richard, I'm not familiar with the magnetic key, but I will start searching. I appreciate all the feedback guys!

Leonard,
I just went to Joe Porper's site and found the locking key you mentioned. Here's the funny thing...I live in Chatsworh, CA. Joe's shop is a few minutes away from my house. I'll call him this week. I appreciate the lead.

I have both the Owen and the Porper and the Porper is way easier to use single handed.
Stay tooned.

Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
You're welcome Glenn. Please feel free to send me a locking key as well when you see Porper, heh, heh...
Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
With practice you can open the Owen locking key with one hand, but relocking it requires two. The only magnetic key rings I've seen were on aluminium rings that I thought sounded lousy.
Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Right, and the alloy ones do sound awful. There is a trick to opening the Owen by banging it against another ring in a certain, but unsure way, and yes it takes both hands to close. The porper does not.
Stay tooned.
Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Thanks gentlemen for the responses. I'll be visiting Porper's shop this week. Although expensive, it sounds initially like this is the key ring I'd be looking for.

Re: Harry Riser's Linking Ring routine
Hi Glenn, read the Riser Ring Routine again and you will realize that the locking key is only locked at the beginning before any magic happens. I believe Riser sequenced the display of the locked key at the beginning to throw off those in the audience that suspect a "hole."
After that it's opened and handled like the classic key ring throughout the routine. I suspected that Riser did not continually open and close the the locking key in his routine and was pleasantly surprised to be correct when I bought the book. He's a practical no nonsense man...
