NEW WORLD: OOTW, Still Ticking

Postby Jon Racherbaumer » January 18th, 2005, 11:11 am

The version of OOTW by Michael Weber and Dean Dill, alluded to tangentially on this Forum and soon to be released, is a sight to behold, an experience to be cherished. Weber, recently in the Big Easy, shared this _______(supply your own superlative-adjective)effect with me over a bowl of gumbo. "New World" will not disappoint dreamers AND realists. I felt like Chris Columbus on acid. My Inner Child, prone to tantrums and frustrating stomping, was pacified by the shock and awe...still on and in THIS world of glorious mundanities, renewed enough to still believe that miracles are possible.

As Brother Biro is wont to say, "Stay tuned..."

Onward...

Tooned... sir... ah yes, Weber and Dill have hit the proverbial home run. I just finished a 16 page book "chock full" (as they say) of photos and additional ideas and presentations.

Plan A is to have 'em at the Magic Castle dealer day this coming Sunday.

Note: El Rocobalmer... the Mrs. and I plan to hit N'orleeeenz in March, need some guidance.
Stay tooned.

Another thread in this Forum refers to Perfect World, similar sounding effect and publicity, by Ian Barradell (he's English) and sold by JB Magic (Mark Mason). I do not expect to purchase either but it would be interesting to know the difference, if any.

Pete says that "Dill/Weber solved it all, one row of cards for each color, no changing with second indicator cards".

With Perfect World you do need to switch half way through, and you have to do the usual correcting of the 'dirty' pile at the end.

Pete also says the Dill/Weber solution relies on a stack....which hints towards a regular deck. There is no way Perfect World could be described as a regular deck. Despite JBs repeated cliams to the contrary.

"Pete says that "Dill/Weber solved it all, one row of cards for each color, no changing with second indicator cards"."

I thought Paul Harris had already solved it all with Galaxy.

There is also a great version by Derren Brown on his Devil's Picture Book video.

I wonder what Dill/Weber could add that is would make the effect any cleaner.

Dill/Weber does not use a "stack" per se, but the Aronson Stack, without need to memorize it, is included in a develish way for OTHER effects included in the 16 pages of instructions.

Are the added effects stack dependent?

Do you need a special deck or can you use your own (even if it means extra work) ?

Is it true what I heard that somehow a Raven is employed?

The deck is a special deck printed by US Playing Card Company and there is no need to use a Raven. The backs have special characteristics, also.

Dean Dill (one of my all time fave magi)

and

Mike Weber (one of the most creative guys in the biz.)

+ the worlds greatest card trick...

My mouth is literally watering just thinking about this!

What about a dove harness? Is there a dove harness involved?

Im pretty sure the answer to that is no, but I think it uses Harry Andersons grappler. Do you suppose they have given credit where credit is due?

David,

Maybe it uses a Dusheck vest and a thumb tip or maybe I'm confused with one of your effects. What do you think?

Either way I can't wait to hear more about this effect.

As usual, Acer has it all wrong. It's a boon writer and a "chopped" card box. The collector's workshop version will be available soon. Yours for $800.

Sounds like a deck of split cards. Perhaps with a taper to right them. I came up with that method a few years ago, and someone told me that it was a UF Grant idea.

I was at Dean's Shoppe a couple weeks ago, and Dean toasted me with this. I felt like a kid again. A phenomenal effect from two of the most creative people I have ever met. The rush I felt when Dean just spread those two packets back is something that cannot be described.

WOW...I can't wait to see this effect. Does anyone know if Dean will have it this Sunday at the Dealer's Day at the Castle??

Dean did have it at Dealer Day, and now you can buy it from hocus pocus.

It's a wonderful effect, and Dean's alternative ideas are diabolical.

for information. He'll ship it right out.

I heard that it uses a skip-loader with hydraulic pistons, completely noiseless.

More importantly, is there a video of this anywhere?

Here's your video.

Close your eyes.

Ok, don't, as you can't read this with your eyes closed.

Magician takes a red card and black card and places it face up on the table. Magician takes four cards and deals them face down on the face up cards. Shows whether he missed or hit.

Magician has spec cut off a group of cards. Spec deals cards face down on face up cards.

Magician turns cards face up. All the cards dealt on the red leader are red; on the black, black.

That is a super simple handling. It looks that clean. All the moves have been described. They deal. You turn over and all the cards are right.
